Future: A real-life personal trainer in an app

There are plenty of fitness apps out there with personal trainer-approved, pre-programmed workouts, but Future promises to be different.

Launched two days ago, the US-based fitness app assigns you to a real-life personal trainer (choose between male/female; all are experienced in training top athletes) who creates personalised workouts for you and checks in multiple times a day to make sure you’re actually doing them.

The welcome kit comes with a water bottle and an Apple Watch (yes, you read that correctly), which will give your PT real-time stats on your activity level per day (read: you can’t just sit on your couch and say you worked out).

The app has already raised over US$11 million in funding from investors including Instagram’s co-founder Mike Krieger, who said, “Future manages to be both deeply personalized (and personable!) while being super convenient.”

The new Future app pairs you up with a real-life personal trainer who keeps tabs on your workouts.

And according to Future’s CEO, “95% of users stuck with [the app] for three months, and 85% kept training for six months.”

At US$150 per month (approx. HK$1,100), it’s a fraction of what you’d pay for an actual personal trainer here in HK but at the end of the day, it’s still an app.

No word yet on whether it’ll be available in Asia but sounds like an interesting idea…
