A few years ago, I bought the Abs Diet book but didn’t get very far with the recipes inside besides a few smoothies and sandwiches. But the fact that the recipes were designed for men, who are a) clueless in the kitchen and b) impatient, meant that I might possibly be able to pull them off, especially for someone just starting out in the kitchen (ahem, me!).
So, here is my attempt at The Orange and Gold, a ridiculously easy chicken recipe from the Abs Diet. The recipe calls for:
- 2 TEASPOONS PEANUT OIL
- 1/4 TEASPOON RED PEPPER FLAKES
- 2 THIN-CUT BONELESS, SKINLESS CHICKEN BREASTS, CUT INTO BITE-SIZE PIECES OR STRIPS
- 1/3 CUP MATCHSTICK CARROTS
- 1/3 CUP CHOPPED CELERY
- 1 GREEN ONION, SLICED
- 2 TABLESPOONS CHOPPED UNSALTED ROASTED PEANUTS
- 1 TABLESPOON HOISIN SAUCE
Basically, all you have to do is stirfry the chicken with the red pepper flakes, and then add everything else in and cook for about 10 minutes. Simple, right? You can then serve this over brown rice and/or boil some kale on the side drizzled with oyster sauce, as I did.
To be honest, the chicken turned out kind of dry and bland, but the veggies were tasty thanks to the hoisin sauce! Next time I’ll probably add more sauce. Bon appetit!
