Tofu with mushrooms and bok choy at Ka Ka Lok Fast Food Shop

Ka Ka Lok is this awesome Canto fast food takeaway off Ashley Road in TST that you would think is impossible to eat healthy at, thanks to their menu of greasy, fat and MSG-laden dishes such as Singapore style fried noodles, salty fish and chicken fried rice, and other miscellaneous after-dark stir-fries.

But here’s proof that you can: the tofu scramble with mushrooms and bok choy.

To be honest I wasn’t quite sure what I would be getting but I asked the chef to give me something meat- and carb-free so this is what I got (for about HK$34). The tofu was soft and all broken up, and underneath it all was a bed of bok choy so it did the job in filling me up.

On the negative side, there was quite a bit of cornstarch added in so the sauce became a bit gloopy. Also, it was on the bland side since there wasn’t much flavouring (next time I’d ask them to make it spicy or something). Otherwise it’s a pretty good option if you’re on a no-carb veggie diet.
