Vietnamese Bun Chay (noodle salad) at Grassroots Pantry

Finally made it down to Grassroots Pantry and had no idea how small and tucked away it was. Tip for anyone planning to walk there from Central: DON’T! Take a cab. Really.

I ordered the Vietnamese Bun Chay (noodle salad) with honey-grilled hedgehog mushroom, homemade nuoc cham (dipping sauce) and almond-sesame dressing for HK$165, which is a lot to pay for a handful of seaweed noodles topped with some tasty, meat-like chunks and carrot and cucumber sticks.

I also had The Enricher for HK$52, a smoothie made with pineapple, mango, banana, leafy greens, basil, flax seed and unsweetened soy milk, which was good (but then again, what smoothie isn’t?).

The total bill for my dinner was over HK$220 after tip, and I actually left hungry. Will I be back? I DO want to try the quinoa patties, Lebanese kofta and Happy Cow dairy-free ice cream…so probably. But I won’t be ordering that Vietnamese noodle dish again.
