Smoked salmon salad at Le Salon Restaurant et Croissanterie

Here’s a test of willpower: go to Le Salon at Hysan Place (especially when you’re on a diet) and try to resist their double baked croissants made with 100 percent butter that ooze out a creamy filling of chestnut, tiramisu, chocolate, or salted caramel with each flaky bite.

To be honest, I had no idea if I would be able to. But somehow I did. Maybe it’s because their croissants have shrunk down to half the size they used to be (go big or go home) or maybe their new flavours threw me off (raspberry yogurt and dark cherry filling), but thankfully they had a few other things on the menu that weren’t as artery clogging.

Here’s the smoked salmon salad (HK$45), which was served in a plastic takeaway box with some greens, peeled cucumber slices and a thick honey mustard dressing (plopped in one corner so you can avoid having to ingest it all).

It wasn’t the freshest smoked salmon I’ve had, but enough to keep my stomach from growling.

So there you go – how to eat healthy at a croissanterie? Avoid the croissants!
