As a newbie to raw foods and raw food cooking, I was looking for something easy to make that didn’t involve any fancy machinery (spiralizer, dehydrator, etc.) and came across this beginner’s recipe for a mango and avocado salad on We Like it Raw.
Turns out it’s perfect because 1) the ingredients are always available in HK, 2) it’s super easy to make and 3) it’s pretty damn delicious!
Ingredients
- 2 Ripe Mangoes, peeled, pitted and chopped
- 1 Large Avocado, peeled, pitted and chopped
- 1 Tablespoon Lime Juiced
- 2 Teaspoons Olive Oil
- 1 Tablespoon Cilantro Leaves
- 1 Tablespoon Black Sesame Seeds
Chop the mangoes and avocado up and mix with the rest of the ingredients — that’s it!
Oh, and make sure you eat it right away or else it’ll get all mushy.
Tip: You can get the black sesame seeds from the local nuts/seeds/dried stuff guy in town. I got about 1-2 cups of it for just HK$2, so definitely not expensive at all. Enjoy!

Oh, yum! This sounds delicious. I would kind of like to have a dehydrator, just to experiment with it. I have not (yet?) got onto the raw food wagon. But I do love my salads. 🙂

Where did you buy cilantro for this recipe? I live in New Territories and it’s not easy to find stuff like that here!

Hmm you can find it at most markets actually! It’s called “yeen-sai” in Cantonese. Hope this helps!

Hi,
I just came across your blog. I only recently moved to Hong Kong, where can I find mango? I live in Yau Ma Tei – will they sell it at the markets? I’m trying to get my blog off the ground here so if you could take a look that’d be great!
