Review: Go Bananas HK overnight oats and chia pudding

For those who are big on health but short on time, overnight oats are a great way to start your day.

A mix of oats and your choice of liquid (usually a type of milk; dairy or plant-based), plus whatever else you choose to stir in, all you have to do is mix everything up and leave it overnight in the fridge.

But for those who don’t even have time to do that? Thankfully, there’s Go Bananas, a new(ish) Hong Kong-based startup that makes healthy breakfasts and snacks, including overnight oats, parfaits and chia pudding.

We recently had the chance to try the overnight oats from Go Bananas, which came delivered in the cutest little jars with stickered seals and nutritional info. We tried the following jars:

    • Tropical Mango Chia Pudding
    • Creamy Chocolate Chia Pudding
    • Matcha Latte Chia Pudding
    • Peanut Butter Cup Overnight Oats
    • Blueberry Coconut Overnight Oats
  • Morning Caffe Latte Overnight Oats

With three flavours of chia pudding and seven flavours of overnight oats, there’s certainly plenty to choose from. What’s good to know is that all of the jars use plant-based milk and contain no preservatives or refined sugars.

Go Bananas actually make their own plant-based milk, granola and jams so what you’re getting is truly handmade and not just a mix of ready-made, store-bought ingredients.

So what did they taste like? Despite their small size, each of the jars were quite filling and definitely enough to keep you going until lunchtime. We really enjoyed the homemade jam at the bottom of each jar as they provided a natural sugar kick to the oats/chia puddings and you could really taste how fresh all the ingredients were.

Most of the jars had a nice mix of textures, from the crunchy granola and coconut flakes, to the chewy oats and smooth chia pudding. Our personal favourite was the Blueberry Coconut Overnight Oats, which was packed with fruity flavour and even had a few giant blueberries thrown in.

At just HK$45 a jar, we highly recommend Go Bananas as a healthy, grab-and-go breakfast. What’s great is that you can also return the glass jars to them and get HK$2 back for each jar towards your next order.

The company currently delivers to Central, Admiralty, Wanchai and Causeway Bay from Monday to Fridays, 8:30am to 10:30am, and you can place your orders online at gobananas.com.hk.
