Pacsafe Viraloff Mask Black-min

Pacsafe is better known as a company that makes travel gear and bags, but they’ve also added reusable masks to their collection after COVID-19. Fun fact: the company was actually started in Hong Kong by two Australians and still operates out of HK as their headquarters.

When it comes to reusable masks, Pacsafe currently has two models: the single-layered ViralOff mask and five-layered silver iON face mask. We’ll be reviewing the ViralOff mask in this article.

Pacsafe ViralOff mask

Made of a knitted polyester spandex, the Pacsafe ViralOff mask is a single-layered fabric mask that is treated with antimicrobial technology. This means that the fabric is treated to prevent bacteria, fungi, and viruses from growing on it. The ViralOff Polygiene treatment is also proven to reduce tested viruses by over 99% on the material in two hours, including SARS-CoV-2, H3N2 and H1N1.

So can antimicrobial fabric actually protect against the virus? According to Polygiene, “A face mask will never stop viruses from going through it, but we can ensure viruses don’t live in and on it for long.” And as a single-layered mask without any filter, the Pacsafe ViralOff mask serves as more of a barrier to prevent droplets from spreading through sneezing and coughing.

Review

The Pacsafe ViralOff mask is very comfortable to wear, as the material is lightweight, thin and stretchy. Since it does not have a filter, we used it more for outdoor activities where we wouldn’t have too much close contact with others in an enclosed space – such as biking and running outdoors.

The mask looks great on with its 3D fit and outward-facing seam and comes in a variety of colours including black, pink, purple, grey, blue and beige. There’s also a Pacsafe logo on the lower left jawline, which looks pretty cool.

Washing it is easy – just rinse it in cold soapy water and hang/lay flat to dry after each use. We found that the mask felt a little less snug after the first couple uses but it’s normal because there’s no adjustability or nose clip.

Verdict

If you’re not looking for a mask with a built-in filter, the Pacsafe ViralOff mask is perfect as an ultra-breathable and great-looking face covering. It’s great for outdoor activities such as sports or wearing in hot weather, or underneath a surgical mask to prevent maskne.
