Quinoa salad with avocado at Organic 21

Quinoa salad with avocado at Organic 21

We all know how few places there are in Central to eat healthy, so I was super excited to hear about the all-organic cafe, Organic 21, opening on Staunton Street.

Run by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) to give young people opportunities, Organic 21 is a sparsely decorated cafe that uses only organic produceΒ sourced from the HKFYG Β farm in Yuen Long. A television on the wall loops a slideshow of their dishes, which, to be honest, look way better on photos than they do in real life.

I ordered a set lunch with the quinoa salad with avocado, which was served in a bowl with cherry tomatoes and sunflower seeds.

The dish was OK but the avocado was on the raw side and overall, I was unimpressed (I could have easily made this at home). I also tried one of their smoothies out, which tasted quite fake and watered down.

My lunch buddy ordered their “truffle” pasta, which came with barely any sauce, rendering it unedible. She even asked the local staff for some more sauce, and they gave her a small bottle of oil instead (great service, eh?).

In the end, we had to go for a second lunch of fluffy Danish bread at Bologne — a total fail for trying to eat healthy that day! πŸ™
