Living in Hong Kong can be a frenetic experience—with long working hours, hyperactive social lives and the ever-present feeling of FOMO (fear of missing out). For anyone living or planning to move here, it’s more important than ever to have a home where you can escape from all that.
Newcomers normally start with a Hong Kong serviced apartment to get initiated with the city, but just looking for one can be a difficult process—with the location, facilities and of course, service being important factors to consider.
Waterfront Suites is one of Hong Kong’s newer serviced apartments that offers seaside living on the east side of Hong Kong island. Studies have shown that living by the water induces a calm and meditative state, as well as a general sense of wellbeing—making it a great choice for those looking for a spot of calm and convenience.
Managed by Lanson Place, a hospitality company that runs serviced apartments in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chengdu, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore—and luxury boutique hotels—Waterfront Suites opened in the spring of 2019 and is now available for booking.
Location
Located on the East side of Hong Kong Island in Shau Kei Wan (just two stops shy of the last stop on the blue MTR line, Chai Wan), Waterfront Suites faces the water of Aldrich Bay and the Shau Kei Wan Typhoon Shelter, and is directly opposite Lei Yue Mun and Kwun Tong on the Kowloon side.
The closest MTR stop is Sai Wan Ho but Shau Kei Wan is not far off, and there are complimentary shuttle buses each morning to get you to the business districts of Quarry Bay, Causeway Bay and Admiralty.
Rooms and suites
The apartments at Waterfront Suites range from studios to 1- and 2-bedroom suites, as well as 1- to 2-bedroom duplexes that are spread over two floors. On the higher levels, you’ll also find the 2.5-bedroom duplex and 2- and 3-bedroom penthouse suites (one with jacuzzi and one with a pool).
All suites have sea views and are fully furnished with a well-stocked kitchenette, Apple TV, Bose speakers, Siemens washer and dryer (except studios), Nespresso coffee machine, Siemens microwave oven and Bosch blender (for those morning smoothies).
They also include complimentary housekeeping services, bed linen and towel change, concierge, WiFi and wired internet, and television channels to boot.
Wellness offerings
Being a wellness-centric property, Waterfront Suites has creatively come up with two public spaces for its residents to carry out their fitness regimes: the Gym’brary and Yo’garden.
Gym’brary
The Gym’brary is a unique concept of gym + library, which also shares its space with the building’s laundromat (created for those who don’t have washer-dryer units in their studio apartments).
The idea is that you can either sit on the sofa in the middle of the space to read while your laundry is being done, or alternatively, squeeze a workout in (not bad for multitasking).
The gym is great for cardio workouts with several treadmills, elliptical machines, and a bicycle, but there aren’t as many options for those who want to lift weights.
The free weights are located inside a small, mirrored corridor that’s only slightly wider than the bench inside, but there is an all-in-one weight-lifting machine outside that you can do a variety of exercises on.
Yoga’rden
On the 29th floor, you’ll find another common area called the Yoga’rden equipped with lounge sofas, yoga mats and a mirrored area to carry out your yoga practice.
Decorated with colourful wall murals, it’s bright, beautiful and Instagram-friendly—perfect for taking yoga selfies.
Wellness pool
Located on the ground floor next to the members’ lounge, the wellness pool is a cute little pool with built-in loungers and jacuzzi jet streams perfect for tanning and cooling off under the hot Hong Kong sun. Although it’s not big enough for swimming laps, it’s a great bonus to have access to.
Besides the in-house wellness offerings, the neighbourhood that Waterfront Suites is located in is also great for those with active lifestyles. There’s a running track at Aldrich Bay Playground as well as along the Aldrich Bay Promenade, which, if you run westward, connects to the Quarry Bay promenade all the way to North Point.
Community
One great perk about Waterfront Suites is the complimentary grab-and-go breakfasts on weekdays and complimentary canapes and drinks every night for its residents, making it easy to network and meet your neighbours.
The concierge team also hosts wellness-themed activities for its residents, such as talks on ergonomics by physiotherapy clinic, Joint Dynamics. Personal trainers, yoga teachers and meal delivery plans can also be arranged through the concierge by request.
So, if you’re looking for a Hong Kong serviced apartment with wellness in mind, be sure to check out Waterfront Suites as an option.
