6 Hong Kong salads we’re loving right now

Whoever said that salads are boring clearly haven’t ventured outside of the supermarkets. Or at least, haven’t been visiting the right restaurants, or using the right recipes. Filled with antioxidants and good-for-you nutrients, salads make a great, quick-and-easy meal for any time of the day. Hong Kong is blessed with an abundance of scrumptious leafy green platters – here are six salads we’re loving right now:

SaladStop!

Originating from Singapore, SaladStop! made its Hong Kong debut back in 2018, serving predominantly as a fresh and healthy salad bar. You can trust this venue to give you the cleanest leafy greens possible, tossing up dishes which use no additives, preservatives, or artificial colours, to keep things as natural as possible. Here, you can DIY it with your own choice of greens, proteins, and dressing, or simply pick one of their signature favourites, including the Tuna San, a Japanese-inspired concoction featuring edamame, wasabi, and avocado, to name a few.

Treehouse

The buzz around plant-based Treehouse did not go unnoticed. Opening its first branch in the heart of Central, the brand quickly branched out to the newly-opened BaseHall shortly after. The plant-based, chef-driven restaurant focuses on sustainable and ethical fast food, without the nasty stuff found in actual fast food. There’s a variety of foods to choose from on the menu, but the salads are definitely a signature. Pick from one of the three options – the Frangipane is our favourite, a dish which adds pesto for a green kick.

Spicebox Organics

Deemed as a one-stop grocer and organic cafe, Spicebox Organics features freshly-made, gluten-free, and vegan selections on the menu. Its Mid-Levels location attracts health-conscious locals to try the enticing superfoods and fresh salads from the menu. Our favourite salads include the Kale and Roasted Beetroot and the Warm Sprouts and Vegetable Salad—both of which are scrumptious and vegan-friendly.

VEDA

Housed at the well-known Ovolo hotel, VEDA comes from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘to know’. The restaurant celebrates Eastern and Western culture and ingredients, and serves authentic vegetarian food in all its glory. Helmed by Chef Hetty McKinnon, the venue is decked in plush sofas and welcoming interiors to make the experience as comfortable, and lush, as possible. Our go-to salad? The refreshing Watermelon Salad, sprinkled with feta crumbles, of course.

Genie Juicery

You probably know Genie Juicery for its delightful selection of cold-pressed juices and juice cleanse packages, but the Chai Wan hotspot also features a food menu, which includes yogurt bowls and healthy desserts. Try one of the hearty salads, like the Asian Invasion, the Kale and Mushroom Salad, or the Over the Rainbow, all of which are packed with good stuff, and all under 320 calories.

The vegetarian eatery features a salad bar, where diners are invited to pick a choice of three to four toppings from the seasonal range of ingredients.
