Veganuary 2023: The Best Vegan Dishes To Try In Hong Kong

veganuary 2023 hong kong dishes

Yes, it’s a weird word, but Veganuary is back! Started in 2014 by a UK nonprofit organisation, the month-long event promotes and educates people about veganism by encouraging them to go vegan for the month of January.

Over 620,000 people from more than 20 countries participated in the 2022 campaign, with plenty of resources on Veganuary.com such as recipes, restaurant guides and more to help them get through the month. Here in Hong Kong, you can also join the movement by either going vegan for the month, or lowering your meat intake to support the cause.

Luckily, there is no shortage of good vegan restaurants (and dishes) in Hong Kong, so here are a few of our faves here at HealthyHKG!

Japanese Katsu Curry Risotto at YEARS

Topping our list of vegan dishes in Hong Kong is this delicious mix of curry risotto, cherry tomatoes, asparagus and oyster mushrooms – plus a giant Omnipork cutlet fried to golden perfection on top. Be sure to bring a takeaway container, because the portions at YEARS are HUGE!

Soi Nam Chick’n at Veggie4Love

You won’t believe it’s not chicken – this vegan take on Hainan Chicken is surprisingly realistic, minus the greasy chicken skin. We love the radishes that come with it as well, and be sure to request extra ginger sauce for the rice… you won’t regret it!

Vegan Dan Dan Noodles at Miss Lee

Creamy, peanut-y, noodle-y goodness in a bowl… what’s not to love about this delicious vegan dish in Hong Kong?

Willow Sourdough Flat at TREEHOUSE

Wrapped in a pillowy soft, gut-friendly sourdough flatbread, TREEHOUSE’s variety of wraps are packed with yummy fillings, either pre-designed or pick-your-own. Our favourite has to be the Willow wrap with falafel, roasted garlic hummus, mixed greens, roasted red peppers, pickled cucumbers and tahini!

Mapo Tofu Cauliflower Rice at Root Vegan

Not only is this a tasty vegan dish in Hong Kong, it’s also low-carb, gluten-free and keto-friendly! Perfect for staying on track with your diet (whatever it may be, if any) this January.

Vegan Linguine Bolognese at Knockbox Coffee Company

The best comfort food on a cold day – this linguine bolognese is so delicious and made with plant-based meat that tastes (dare we say) even better than the real thing. Give it a try for lunch (their sets are quite a good deal) and pair with a cuppa joe for a complete meal!

Red Velvet Parfait Pancakes at 14SouthLane

How could anyone resist this gorgeous vegan stack of pancakes? Topped with dark chocolate ganache, summer berries and coconut parfait, this red velvet version is a welcome addition to 14SouthLane’s regular rotation of pancakes, which also includes banana!
