Hong Kong is crazy about afternoon tea, but it’s not so easy to find vegan options. However, the Four Seasons Hong Kong has one of the city’s best vegan afternoon sets that’s as pretty as it is tasty. We recently had the chance to try it in the comfort of our room during our last staycation at the FSHK:
Like most afternoon tea sets, there are three tiers to the colourful vegan afternoon tea set at the Four Seasons Hong Kong. Starting at the bottom tier with the savouries, the bite-sized treats included cucumber sandwiches with capers, cherry tomatoes filled with quinoa salad, mango and asparagus sandwiches, and a purple sweet potato tart with avocado cream.
In the middle tier, the vegan afternoon tea set came with four vegan scones. With a texture similar to cornbread, they’re probably an acquired taste if you prefer your scones to be fluffy and sweet. However, they did have a unique texture with a slightly chewy crust.
At the very top, we had the sweets, which included caramelised pineapple cubes, mango parfait, chocolate cake and strawberry tarts.
The pineapple cubes were probably our favourite, along with the fresh strawberry tarts. Although it doesn’t look like much, the vegan afternoon tea set was actually quite filling, especially when you alternate each bite with a sip of tea/coffee.
When compared to a normal tea set, we have to admit that the normal tea set (along with the usually fluffy scones) is probably more satisfying, but for those with strict vegan diets, this set should not disappoint. We definitely recommend trying it if you’re looking for a lighter and healthier option!
